Cliksee Explained
How it works, the performance data and things to be aware of
As you know Cliksee is an email campaign tracking application. It works by giving you a small piece of html to paste into your emails, then measuring the number of times that code was displayed, and how many times the links in your email were visited.
Cliksee collects the data, and reports it to you, but also consolidates it with other campaign performance data so you can benchmark against others.
What the numbers mean
Email marketing performance is generally measured on view rate and click-thru rate, terms explained below.- Recipients - the number of people your campaign was sent to
- Views - the number of recipients who viewed your email
- View rate - a percentage derived from views divided by recipients
- Click-thrus - the number of people who clicked the call-to-action link in your email
- Call-to-action link - a web page URL your email is prompting the recipient to visit
- Click-thru rate - a percentage derived from click-thrus divided by views
Limitations of Cliksee
Apart from being a BETA application, so whilst it is free we do not warrant availability, performance, or accuracy of the application, there are some general points to be aware of. These relate to the limitations of this type of tracking technology and are not specific to Cliksee but apply to any similar tool that uses this technology.- Our view rate measure uses the recipients figure you tell us in it's calculation. If your data is poor, you might get loads of returned mail messages back, which means some of your emails never got through. This will distort your view rate measure. Always check your data before use.
- Views are tracked by the display of an image in the email. A view does not always mean the email has been read, but that the html code has been downloaded. Some email clients have preview panes that will trigger a 'view'.
- Equally an email may have been read, but not triggered a 'view', as some email clients ask if you want to download images - someone can always say no.
- Clicksee code can only be embedded in HTML format emails, it will not work if sent in a plain text email.
